N90B FRAUD ALLEGATION: There is more to FIRS Denial – Youths Tell EFCC

N90B FRAUD ALLEGATION: There is more to FIRS Denial – Youths Tell EFCC

By Joseph Oghene

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths have called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other relevant security agencies to probe the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) over the N90 billion scandal.

The call followed the allegation by Timi Frank, a former Deputy Spokesperson of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who alleged that the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo started having issues when the presidency discovered that he mismanaged N90 billion allegedly made available by the FIRS for 2019 election campaign purposes.

Even though the FIRS had denied making N90 billion available to the Vice President for election campaigns, the youths said there is more to the allegation.

The youths, under the aegis of PDP South South Youth Vanguard said that the Inland Revenue must tell the nation what really transpired and stop denying the allegation.

The youths, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure said that the issue must not be swept under the carpet and that the anti-graft agencies must swing into action at once to unravel the whole truth behind the scandal.

The youths said: “It is unfortunate that this is happening in a country where the government in power, which prides itself of fighting corruption, is accused of corruption.

“It is not enough for FIRS to deny this allegation. The anti-graft agencies should get to the root of this case and unravel what really transpired.

“Proper investigation devoid of bias should be conducted by the EFCC and other agencies. This government told the world that it will fight corruption, this is the time for it to demonstrate it and let Nigerians know that it is serious in its fight against corruption.

“This issue should not be swept under the carpet of denial; the world wants to know the truth.”

CAUTION AGIP AGAINST INTERFERING IN BAYELSA GUBER ELECTION: PDP YOUTHS URGE NNPC

CAUTION AGIP AGAINST INTERFERING IN BAYELSA GUBER ELECTION: PDP YOUTHS URGE NNPC

By Aferiokhai Osigbemeh

The management of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has been urged to caution AGIP Petroleum Company from interfering in the forthcoming Bayelsa State Governorship Election scheduled for November 16.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youths, under the aegis of PDP South South Youth Vanguard, made this call Tuesday, less than two months to the state governorship election.

The youths said it has become imperative to call on the NNPC because of the implication of AGIP backing a particular candidate in the state election against other candidates.

Recall that last week the group had warned AGIP against such move, adding that such action is capable of causing crisis in Bayelsa State.

The youths, in a statement by its National Chairman, James Efe Akpofure called on the management of NNPC to take urgent steps in addressing this development.

The youths, who had earlier called on the Bayelsa chiefs, elders and stakeholders to warn the oil company to face the business that brought them to Nigeria, emphasized that the action of the company will have a negative implication in the long run.

The youths had also noted that the action of the oil company is capable of destabilizing the state because of vested interest.

The PDP Youth Vanguard said; “We are calling on the NNPC to urgently look into this development and call AGIP Company to order because of unforeseen circumstances that will trail the support of one candidate by AGIP against others in the same state.

“We are not against AGIP supporting all the candidates financially, but a situation where the company will support a particular candidate, is what we frown at.

The company should put into consideration that all the candidates are from Bayelsa State and supporting one of the candidates will create bad blood in the state, which can backfire in the long run.

The PDP Youth Vanguard concluded that, “We urge NNPC to look into this development immediately and ensure that AGIP does not play a partisan role in the forthcoming governorship election.”

I’VE WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN BAYELSA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION – SENATOR DIRI …..Says Relationship With Jonathan Cordial

I’VE WHAT IT TAKES TO WIN BAYELSA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION – SENATOR DIRI

…..Says Relationship With Jonathan Cordial

By Our Abuja Bureau Chief

Being excerpts of remarks and response by the Bayelsa State Peoples Democratic Party (PPD) Governorship candidate, Senator Douye Diri, during a recent interactive session with senior journalists in Abuja.

INTRODUCTORY REMARKS

I am from a humble background in Sampou community in Kolokuma/Opokuma Local Government Area of Bayelsa State. I went to primary school in Sampou and Odi before attending Government Secondary School, Odi, where I obtained the West African School Certificate in 1981.

I proceeded to the College of Education, Port Harcourt, and got the Nigeria Certificate in Education (NCE) in 1985 before attending the University of Port Harcourt where I obtained a Bachelor of Education (B.Ed) degree in Political Science in 1990.

Thereafter, I became a teacher. I taught in rural secondary schools in the old Rivers State before Bayelsa was created.

At that time, the issues about state creation and other events were at the frontline and I joined our ethnic-based organisation known as the Ijaw National Congress (INC). I became the first elected Organising Secretary of the body and we worked toward the aim of creating Bayelsa State.

Initially, it was not only Bayelsa. From our submission at that time, three states were proposed for the Ijaws – the Oil Rivers State, Bayelsa and Toru-Ibe State. Finally, we got only Bayelsa.

Upon the creation of Bayelsa, we supported successive military regimes that came on board. Thereafter the military left for civil rule and our first governor became Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha.

We in the INC tried to even bring in a political supportive organ, which we called the National Solidarity Movement (NSM), and I contested election to be chairman of my Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA in 1999. I lost that election. Later, the NSM could no longer be sustained and it was fused with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

We all worked with Chief Alamieyeseigha to become the first civilian governor of the state. In that administration, I was appointed first as a member of the Bayelsa Youth Development Centre (BYDC) and later elevated to the executive secretary. That was the office I held until I felt I could no longer continue with the government at that time and I resigned.

Upon my resignation, I came up with how we could eventually install another government in Bayelsa. So I joined Chief Timi Alaibe, who was with the Niger Delta Development Commission as Executive Director, Finance and Administration. We tried that and it didn’t work out.

For clarity, a lot of people see me as someone who was a staff of NDDC, but I wasn’t. I was a political ally and a close person to Chief Alaibe, believing that we were going to enthrone a government in Bayelsa that would be more responsive to the people.

I was with Chief Alaibe for about 10 years. One thing or the other happened on each election we attempted, then he will return to NDDC. A few of us didn’t feel very comfortable with that.

The events of Chief Alamieyeseigha’s impeachment came and thereafter Dr. Goodluck Jonathan took over. When he took over, I was appointed as Commissioner for Youths and Sports in 2006 and served in that capacity till 2007. That was where I met very closely the current governor of Bayelsa, Honourable Henry Seriake Dickson, who was the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice. We had met earlier in Port Harcourt during our days in the INC because we handed over the reins of office to them where he served as legal adviser of the body.

We all belonged to the same cabinet led by our former president. By the time Dr. Goodluck was elevated to the office of the Vice President and subsequently President, a political vacuum was created. Chief Timipre Sylva came in and filled it for five years.

At that time, I became a member of the governing board of the University of Maiduguri. So I was not in Bayelsa in those five years as I served in Maiduguri for four years before the election that brought in Governor Dickson.

Being a former colleague, he invited me to be a part of the campaigns. In fact, when I accepted the offer and informed my political ally at that time, Chief Alaibe, he didn’t take it kindly. So that was how we parted ways. I joined Governor Dickson, we campaigned, went into the election and he won in 2012.

After winning the election, I was first appointed as Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, an office I held for about a year after which the designation was changed to Principal Executive Secretary, Government House. That was where I stayed until 2014 when there was the call for me to go into more service of our people, particularly at the National Assembly. That was how Governor Dickson also agreed to release me to go and contest for the House of Representatives for the Yenagoa/Kolokuma/Opokuma Federal Constituency. I won and served from 2015 to 2019.

As you might be aware, there is this issue of zoning in Bayelsa and, of course, in the PDP. So even while I was to contest for the House of Reps, the call was basically for me to contest for the Senate. I actually bought the forms initially to contest for the Senate but the then sitting president, Dr. Jonathan, spoke to me and asked me to allow the incumbent senator at the time, Senator Emmanuel Paulker, to go in for a third term. The thinking of our people at that time was that Southern Ijaw, one of the three local government areas in the Central Senatorial District, had produced Senator David Brigidi, who served for two terms. Then Senator Paulker from Yenagoa Local Government Area had also served two terms. So by principle, it was the turn of Kolokuma/Opokuma, my own LGA. But, when the former President prevailed on me, we accepted. So I went to the House of Representatives.

I want to state it clearly that was one of the best decisions I took because having a seat in the House of Reps is a very good thing indeed. I enjoyed my four years in the House and I can attest to that anytime.

Thereafter, in the last National Assembly elections, there was no argument as to who should be sent to the Senate. At the end of the day, I contested and won that election under the PDP with my governor behind me.

Again, in the Senate, I got calls from my people that you have a very good background, you have the experience in the executive and in the legislature and you have been a part of the PDP and the Restoration Government from the onset till date. You have participated in initiating policies and now that Governor Dickson is exiting, we cannot find any other competent hand. And that by the zoning principle of our state, it favours your senatorial district. So we are calling on you to return from the Senate to contest for the office of governor.

I made my consultation with God, my boss the sitting governor, and other relevant stakeholders. The answers I got were all positive. And that led me back again to pursue service of my people at the state level having barely spent two months in the Senate.

I returned and obtained the forms being one of the three that was favoured by the Dickson-led Restoration Government. It was agreed that the office should be zoned to the Bayelsa Central Senatorial District. So the names of three members of the Restoration Team was put up. But that didn’t prevent others (from outside the Central District) from obtaining forms. As you are aware, we had 21 aspirants, the highest so far in the PDP in the state.

We all took the forms but cautioned ourselves that it was a family affair and as such the contest ought not degenerate into name calling, insults and abuses. We kept to that even though at some point we saw some form of non-compliance, which was typical of politics.

At the end of the day, we held the primaries. Many were afraid that there would be an implosion in the PDP because of the number of aspirants in a small state like Bayelsa. But God being on our side, we had a successful primary and I emerged as the candidate of the PDP.

In my acceptance speech that night, I told our party and the world that the winner of that contest was our party. As much as possible, I wanted all my colleague-aspirants to join hands with me and no matter how bitter the exercise could have been, we should all come together and first of all think about our party to continue in the governance of Bayelsa State.

Bayelsa is a predominantly PDP-controlled state and we are believing that all the 21 aspirants will come together and work for the success of our party.

Q: Have you made deliberate or subtle efforts to bring together all the people that contested against you?

A: Earlier, I made an allusion to it that we are trying our best. Even as we speak, we are calling, we are moving to them and we are equally using their friends and brothers to ensure that we come back together as a party.

You would agree with me that party politics in Nigeria has not been the way we see it in other climes and that is why you see even while I was in the House, people on the floor (of the House) cross to other parties. We are not there yet but I believe we need to consolidate on what the political party is.

Beyond the issue of getting control of governance, a political party has other functions that it owes its members, such as educating them and bringing cohesion within the the party and all of that. Here, many zero in on a political party as an avenue to grab political power and I think we need to move beyond that. That is why it is really difficult when you come into a contest like this, before you know, someone is already moving away to the opposite party. Not even to any other party, but the party that might eventually give you the fight of your life. That is the way I see it in our country.

What I read about political parties in the book is different from what I see in  Nigerian politics. But to answer your question directly, we are trying our best, we are calling them and talking to them. Even this morning, I had discussion with some of them and many of them have agreed that they are not going to another party. They have agreed to sit back, work with the party and ensure that the party wins. If I win the election, it won’t be as Douye Diri. I have been nominated by the PDP. So, it is PDP that is actually winning the election. I’m not saying we are there yet, because at the end of the day, we need to get all the 20 of them to return to our fold.

Q: What is your relationship with Chief Timi Alaibe?

A: I was with Timi Alaibe for 10 years. Just to let you know, we hail from the same local government area. So he is my brother. That is why I said earlier that we are not home and dry yet as we are still talking to ourselves. Politics is like looking for a wife to marry. Maybe these days it is very easy but in our own time, a woman can take as long as one year to woo. So we are still in that process.

I see him as a brother and I believe that he too sees me as one. Specifically, I don’t believe that any one of us is indispensable, including myself. But I agree with you that he (Alaibe) is a factor. He came into the race and he did very well and like every other aspirant, was in the race to win. I don’t think anybody will like to throw away N21million.

We are trying our possible best engaging our brothers and friends just to ensure that we have a common house so that we can collectively face our political adversaries. We have a fight ahead of us but I don’t see the other people as being so strong on ground to fight and defeat the PDP. If we have a free,  fair and transparent election, the APC cannot win even a councillorship election in Bayelsa State. It is just the hype about federal might by using of security apparatus to intimidate or using INEC to write results. That is the propaganda we have been receiving.

Our appeal is that the security agencies must be professional. INEC must remain an umpire and if there is that fair playing field, the opponents are neither here nor there to contest in this election.

Q: Specifically, who are those you consulted? Is former President Goodluck Jonathan among them?

A: It is difficult to mention all the people I consulted. The former president was my governor. I worked under him as commissioner and that tells you the relationship that I had with him. Before then, even while I was Executive Secretary of the BYDC, he was deputy governor under Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha. So we have known ourselves for a long while before he became president.

While I was in the House of Representatives, there was a probe panel to investigate the former president. It was myself and Hon. Boma Goodhead from Rivers State that kicked against a decision by the committee to invite the former president to appear before the panel and not even the floor of the house. I found that very ridiculous and that brought about a serious disagreement between myself and a colleague from Kwara State, who was chairman of the committee. I saw in the national dailies the next day that I almost beat up the chairman. There was nothing like that. But I was visibly angry with what they were doing because I believe that no other former president had been so humiliated the way they wanted to humiliate him. The question I asked then was, is it because he is from the minority? Because he is the first president to come from the minority. But that was finally put to rest.

So I have a very cordial relationship with the former president and he was one of those key persons I consulted. I went to him in his house and he received me. In fact, he took me to his wife because the wife was like our mother when he was governor. So my wife, who was a commissioner’s wife, was like her daughter. So, he gave me his blessings. I also consulted very many other leaders before I finally went into the race.

Let me also say that politics is a game of interest. At a point, the governor said he doesn’t have a candidate and I saw in one of the posts that if the governor is going to have one candidate that will be adopted, it will be me. So anybody can claim that the former president was with him but it is only at the point of voting that you know whether the former president was with you or not.

Q: What are going to do to reassure Bayelsans that you are not a stooge.

A: From my short profile I just spoke about, it would be very clear to anyone in doubt about who I am, what I stand for and why I even accepted to work with the current governor. I told you that Sylva was in power for five years and I didn’t get into Bayelsa State. That tells you I am a man of principles. I choose my friends and those I want to work with. I chose to work with Governor Dickson and I am very satisfied working with him.

Ask me why? There was this Transparency Bill he introduced to the state House of Assembly whereby the government is mandated to hold a monthly transparency briefing and inform the state about its revenue and expenditure. And because of my privileged position in the engine room of government, every month when the federal allocation comes in and the IGR, we seat together in a committee where the governor, his deputy, myself, the Commissioner for Finance and all the finance-related people allocate what came into the state to the various ministries, departments and agencies. So, at that point, I knew that Gov. Dickson was not taking anything out from what was coming in.

When people say you are a stooge to cover up, I do not know where and what I want to cover up, having known that this was the process until I left for the National Assembly. Even while I was away, the process continued.

So, I believe that in the first place, there is nothing to cover up and the resources that come into Bayelsa are used for development of the state. I just believe that it is out of my humility, my honesty, my principles that he recognised and felt that this candidate will be the person that will serve our people well.

Q: What would be your key policy thrust?

A: When we took over in 2012, the policy thrust on education came about because there was a lacuna in our educational sector. The governor declared a state of emergency in that sector and I believe to a large extent, he has ameliorated most of the gaps that we discovered when we came in. For instance, Bayelsa was previously on about thirty-something position in all national examinations when we came but today, the state is among the first 10 in all such national examinations. That has been achieved to a level and I will continue with it and ensure that we go higher.

Next will be the economy. Our local economy is neither here nor there. The sitting governor has tried to bring in solutions in agriculture, trying to look at our comparative advantage and I intent to build on that. I want us to have a local economy where our people will be directly involved. Today, the number of Bayelsans involved in economic activities is low. That will be one of our policy thrust not forgetting the issue of security. Of course you are aware that no government can thrive and do well without security. We are seeing bits of it at the federal level where the level of insecurity in the country is so high. Those are the things I will build on but that is not to say we are forgetting other sectors.

Q: How would you react when people say you don’t have what it takes to win this election?

A: I like when people underestimate me. It is out of that underestimation that I always bring out surprises. When people say my emergence will make the other party to win, they have not taken into cognisance that this was the same man who won recently two elections, one to the House of Representatives, the other to the Senate and you say that man is an underdog.

APC YOUTH GROUP IN BAYELSA CRIES OUT TO OSHIOMOLE AS PARTY’S CRISIS DEEPENS

….Says Disagreement Over Imposition Of David Lyon Tearing Party Apart

By Aferiokhai Osigbemeh

The All Progressives Congress Youth Alliance in Bayelsa State has called on the Party’s National Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshimhole to intervene in the crisis rocking the state Chapter of the Party less than three months to the November 16, 2019 gubernatorial election in the state.

The Coordinator of the APCYA, Dr. Joseph Ikileka Temple, said in a statement on Saturday that the manner of the primaries that threw up Security Surveillance Contractor, Chief David Lyon as the gubernatorial candidate of the APC had polarized the party.

He said that the anger and resentment which followed the declaration of David Lyon as the party’s candidate on September 5, 2019 has pitched some leaders and critical stakeholders against him.

Temple said that the APC Youth Alliance was bothered by the deluge of cases which have been filed by former Minister of State for Agriculture, Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri, in Abuja, Engineer Preye Aganaba in Yenagoa and other leaders of the party in Port Harcourt and other cities.

The Coordinator said that the cases being filed by top leaders of the APC to challenge the outcome of the controversial primaries in Bayelsa State has created sharp division within the APC family in Bayelsa.

He expressed the concern that the APC which should be intensifying activities in the tough challenge to wrest political control from the ruling PDP, is torn apart by division caused by the emergence of David Lyon as the party’s candidate.

He called on the Adams Oshiomhole led National Working Committee to look into the issues raised by the aggrieved APC leaders who are alleging that Chief Timipre Sylva imposed David Lyon on the party for ulterior motives.

Temple said that the provocative issues involved in the primaries which held at Aridolf hotel for less than thirty minutes should be addressed to prevent the party from repeating the mistake that cost the party the governorship in Zamfara and Rivers States.

He said, “We the concerned members of the APC Youth Forum in Bayelsa State have observed with dismay the deep conflict rocking our party as a result of the party’s primaries which produced Chief David Lyon as the candidate.

“At the last count, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Engineer Preye Aganaba, and APC elders and leaders have filed five cases to seek redress over perceived deprivation by Chief Timipre Sylva and alleged imposition of David Lyon on the party.

“We are worried that the APC is not going into the election as one united body with the deep rooted bitterness thrown up by the outcome of the primaries.

“We hereby appeal to our Chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, and other national leaders of the party to address the sensitive issues around the controversial primaries.

PROVIDE PHOTOGRAPHIC EVIDENCE OF YOUR PHANTOM MEETING BETWEEN GOV DICKSON AND CHIEF TIMIPRE SYLVA

—– PDP YOUTH NETWORK TO APC RUMOUR MONGERS

Aferiokhai Osigbemeh

The Peoples Democratic Party Youth Network has called on Bayelsans to ignore a wild rumour being peddled by unscrupulous characters about a purported meeting between Governor Dickson and the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva.

The Secretary General of the PDPYN, Mr. James Oputin, urged Bayelsans to ignore the unfounded rumour which he described as a product of mischief.

He said that the politicians behind the rumour were scared of the growing internal cohesion within the PDP ahead of the November 16, 2019 gubernatorial election in the state contrary to their expectations.

Oputin also advised the members and supporters of the PDP to ignore the false story designed to malign the leadership of the party in Bayelsa.

He said that the surreptitious design to put unnecessary doubts in the minds of well meaning supporters of the party in the state should be resisted.

The PDPYN Scribe said that Governor Dickson and the leadership of the PDP did not need any meeting with leaders of the All Progressives Congress to win the forthcoming gubernatorial election in the state.

He stated also while it was possible for Governor Dickson to host Chief Timipre Sylva in his capacity as the minister from Bayelsa in the Federal cabinet, it is sad that some APC members are peddling deliberate misinformation to deceive Bayelsans about a meeting that did not take place.

Oputin stressed that the same set of people from the All Progressives Congress were behind the story that Sylva supported David Lyon because he wanted to give the governorship to the PDP.

He advised the uninformed people behind the fake story to focus their attention on their electoral campaign rather than the failed attempt to plant discord within the PDP.

Oputin noted that the PDP and its followers would not be distracted by disgruntled elements of the APC who are battling to divert attention from the challenge of marketing a gubernatorial misnomer as their candidate in Bayelsa.

He insisted that Bayelsa is the stronghold of the PDP and would continue to remain so.

NIGERIA AS BEST GIFT TO MANKIND: SEEKING THE RIGHT FIT FOR EFFECTIVE REPRESENTATION

NIGERIA AS BEST GIFT TO MANKIND: SEEKING THE RIGHT FIT FOR EFFECTIVE REPRESENTATION

BY Pat PA Okon

It is incontrovertible that leadership is the capacity to positively affect the led or institutions. This has been one of the major areas of drawbacks for the leadership of continental organisations like the African Union Commission. This can easily be explained from the prism of lack of attention to the concern for merit and competence in selecting the leadership of various continental organisations in Africa.

This fact is hidden in the reality that, you gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. And, this can only happen, if competence, gained through experience and knowledge is prioritized over other considerations in leadership selection or nomination.

In terms of robust reservoir of competent human capacity supply, Africa is not lacking behind, most especially, Nigeria, which has been globally acclaimed to be a nation of immense human capacity gain.

As the process for who represents and/or gets nominated into the sensitive  commissioners’ circuit of Africa Union Commission begins, West Africa and Nigeria must put forward the best, who will not only represent the region and the  country well but win laurels, accolades and project ECOWAS and Nigeria positively as the true giant of Africa that it is.

One example of such depths of Nigeria’s human capacity is Ebiekure Jasper Eradiri, who was not only born into the Royal King Eradiri Family ‎of Agudama-Ekpetiama in Yenagoa Local Government Area of Bayelsa State, Nigeria, but traversed many fields of human endeavour through dint of hard work and stubborn adherence to result-oriented life-style.

All Ebiekure Jasper Eradiri has ever stood and lived for, is service to God through humanity. From his elementary, to secondary and tertiary education, which eventually qualified him as a Chemical Engineer, he has never forgotten his source, first love, which is bringing succour to the depressed and distressed.

As a man of uncommon courage and dexterity, Eradiri ventured into the world of business, after a short stint in Oil/Gas operations as Field Engineer with several International Oil companies. His foray into the Entrepreneurial World, saw him midwife/superintend over a chain of businesses under the group,  Stromberg Holdings with activities in Facility Management/Real Estate Services, Lubricants/Petroleum Fluids, Specialist Engineering & Slickline services amongst others.

In furtherance of his service to fatherland, he has offered his expertise in various fields and at more times than can be counted.

One of the contending challenges of the 21st century is unemployment. This is doable and has been successfully tackled in some other climes. To help his home state of Bayelsa overcome the challenge of Youth unemployment, Eradiri went further to become the Bayelsa State Consultant on Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development, attaining the status of Train-the-Trainer with The Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (SMEDAN), Abuja.

One of the pillars of an effective leadership is the depth of knowledge, as it is believed that no man can give what he does not have. In search of best practices, Eradiri proceeded further with Professional Development courses and certificate programmes in Business/ Enterprise Growth at the Harvard University, Theory and Practice of Negotiation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston USA, Open Day Engagements in London School of Economics and the Lagos Business School. He has been in the Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises Development Space for over 10years as an Entrepreneur, Consultant to Governments, Senior Special Advisor to Governor of Bayelsa State of Nigeria on Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises where he bagged the award of Best Senior Special Assistant of the Year 2015 at the Bayelsa Media Awards.

SYLVA’S PLOT TO DECEIVE BAYELSANS AGAIN IN BAYELSA GOVERNORSHIP EXPOSED BY APC YOUTH FOR CHANE NETWORK

SYLVA’S PLOT TO DECEIVE BAYELSANS AGAIN IN BAYELSA GOVERNORSHIP EXPOSED BY APC YOUTH FOR CHANE NETWORK

Aferiokha Osigbemeh

A foremost APC Youth group in Bayelsa State, the APC YOUTH FOR CHANGE Network led by Comrade James Oputein has issued a Press Statement condemning the trend of events in the emergence of Chief David Lyon as the gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa State. He put the blame for what he called the perpetration of deceit at the door step of the leader of the APC in the State, Chief Timipre Sylva.

Find the full text of the Press Statement below:

For some time now, I have kept quiet about this issue and will be seen to be doing my people the greatest disfavour if I don’t remove this burden from my conscience by revealing the grand deceit being perpetrated by the leader of the All Progressives Congress in Bayelsa, Chief Timipre Sylva, against the good people of our state.

As events in the past few weeks have shown, the sudden entrance of our own Chief David Lyon into the gubernatorial contest and his eventual emergence as the APC governorship candidate has thrown up a number of issues.

While many have celebrated his declaration as the candidate of our party in the November 16, 2019 governorship elections, quite a number of party leaders and members are angered by the observed irregularities that greeted the process of his emergence.

Aspirants who contested against him are known leaders of our great party like Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri and Engr Preye Aganaba and are aggrieved as they hold the view that Chief Timipre Sylva imposed David Lyon on the party by scuttling the law and due process.

Consequently, expectedly and rightfully so, Lokpobiri and Aganaba feel cheated out of the gubernatorial race and have approached the court in the quest for redress.

Although Chief David Lyon has been officially declared by the APC as the party’s governorship candidate in the forth coming November 16, 2019 elections in Bayelsa, our party members are yet to have insight into the deceit behind the imposition of David Lyon on our party.

We cannot ignore the fact that Chief Timipre Sylva had the intention to run for the governorship seat under the platform of the APC before his appointment as the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources. This was to be his third attempt at the governorship having lost in 2011 and 2015 consecutively against the current governor, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson.

His electoral mishaps compelled stakeholders to prevail on him to step down from the race, and accept the ministerial appointment. As the leader of the party, Timipre Sylva was given the opportunity to make input into the nomination of a candidate that would be acceptable to majority of our people.

However, Sylva’s choice of David Lyon elicited mixed feelings across the state as most people saw it as a surreptitious scheme to complete the term he had always claimed  was forcibly taken from him. This choice of David Lyon has resulted in serious doubts among our members who feel that Sylva must be up to something sinister.

Many have wondered why a politician of Sylvia’s worth and pedigree would opt for a political neophyte with no experience in governance like David Lyon as the candidate of the APC in Bayelsa. David Lyon, a self acclaimed businessman, is an oil installation surveillance contractor to AGIP in Bayelsa State.

It is the prevailing view that Chief Sylva who is the APC leader and the custodian of the ‘party structure’ in the state, would prefer it to remain so. Little wonder, he schemed the ticket out of Chief Timi Alaibe’s hands and forced the National chairman, Comrade Adams Oshiomole to announce him as the candidate in 2011. It is clear that Sylva cannot afford to relinquish the leadership position of the APC in Bayelsa to the likes of Sen. Heineken Lokpobiri and Preye Aganaba, who may pose a great danger to his ambition to rule the state in 2023.

It is common knowledge that David Lyon lacks the capacity to govern Bayelsa State hence the nomination of Degi Eremienyo as Lyon’s running mate. If David Lyon succeeds, the plan is to impeach him after six months for lack of competence and then install a defacto governor in the person of Degi in preparation for his 2013 takeover agenda.

David Lyon is only a stooge and a puppet in the hands of Chief Timipre Sylva who will be used to finance the agenda and dumped as he has done to many others. Already, there are failed attempts to link our party to violence because of the antecedents of Sylva which we should not encourage.

Timipre Sylva has used the choice of David Lyon as governorship candidate to cajole the Southern Ijaw people to throw their weight behind him in the forth coming governorship elections. This therefore is a clarion call to our southern Ijaw brothers to ‘shine their eyes’ as would be said in our local parlance.

We all are aware that going by the unwritten zoning arrangements in Bayelsa State,  it’s not yet time for Southern Ijaw to produce the governor. We must note that if the intentions of Chief Silva were genuine, he would have opted for anyone out of the many qualified, politically experienced, tested and proven illustrious sons in either Kolokuma/Opokuma or Yenagoa LGAs. We must be seen to be supportive of the right of other regions in the senatorial district to produce the governor so same can be done to us.

On a final note, I wish to urge the people of SILGA to be watchful in order not to be used to pursue a selfish agenda.

GOV DICKSON WARNS PDP LEADERS AGAINST USE OF HIS NAME FOR UNAUTHORIZED STATEMENTS

GOV DICKSON WARNS PDP LEADERS AGAINST USE OF HIS NAME FOR UNAUTHORIZED STATEMENTS

By Aferiokhai Osigbemeh

The Governor of Bayelsa State, the Honorable Henry Seriake Dickson, has warned against the unauthorized use of his name as Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party Governors Forum for statements not authorized by him.

The Governor condemned in strong terms the unacceptable conduct by some persons who use his name without seeking his clarifications and consent to make comments on national issues in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Fidelis Soriwei, on Tuesday.

Governor Dickson said that while he is reputed to make comments on sensitive national issues, it was odd and criminal for any person or group of persons to make attributions to him in statements he did not authorize.

He warned those behind the deplorable act to desist forthwith.

He stressed that it was the conventional standard for him to be consulted on all statements in order to avoid being misrepresented.

The Governor directed that every statement from the forum must be personally authorized by him.

He said, “It has come to my attention that some members of the Peoples Democratic Party are using my name to issue statements without seeking my consent and approval especially on issues involving the PDP Governors Forum.

“Everyone knows that I am capable of taking positions on national issues. Cowards should not hide under my name and that of the forum to make statements. I have always made statements on issues that I am passionate about without any fear.

“I condemn in very strong terms any tendency to wilfully use my name to issue statements without my consent. It is reprehensible, condemnable and must stop forthwith.

“Henceforth all statements emanating from the PDP Governors Forum must be authorized personally by me.”
