The PDP Governor’s Forum met in Abuja last night at the Bayelsa State Governor’s Lodge in Maitama District of Abuja. The meeting which was hosted by the newly elected Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Hon. Henry Seriake Dickson had in attendance Governors elected on the platform of the PDP and other Party big wigs.

In a position paper presented at the end of the meeting to newsmen by Governor Seriake Dickson in the early hours of Friday, the governors declared that no PDP Governor was involved in the diversion of Local Government Funds. They challenged the federal government and its agencies to name any state governments involved in these diversions and possibly the dates these diversions took place.

According to Governor Dickson, the PDP Governors expressed deep concerns over the politicization of the security apparatus in the states and urged the federal government to depoliticize the security apparatus of the states for a more effective security of lives and properties in the component unites of the federation. The PDP governors promised to take up some of these issues when they get the opportunity to meet with the President at the earliest possible time.

They said the PDP Governors are very eager to pay the new national minimum wage of Thirty Thousand Naira (N30, 000) and called on the Federal Executive to expedite action by sending a bill authorizing the new Thirty Thousand Naira (N30, 000) minimum wage to the incoming 9th National Assembly. The PDP Governors said they were longing to ameliorate the plight of workers in PDP-led states. They also called for a review of the revenue sharing formula of the federation.

In the words of Governor Dickson, “We want to do so to alleviate the plight of the long suffering Nigerian workers who have been underpaid for long, who are currently groaning in economic hardship as a result of what has gone wrong with the economy since the All Progressives Congress (APC) government took over.

Governor Dickson said that the PDP Governors forum condemns the attack on the media epitomized by the very recent (last night) shut down and suspension of the operating licence of DAAR Communications Plc by the National Broadcasting Commission which they described as an act of intolerance against the media. He further said that the position of the PDP Governor’s forum is that due process must be followed. If there are any allegations of infractions, then due process of the law should take place.

Finally, the PDP Governor’s forum commended the Nigerian Judiciary in the discharge of their duties and responsibilities given the very unusual times we find our nation in the journey democratic experience.

Earlier Governor Dickson had congratulated the newly elected PDP Governors, the re elected PDP Governors and the PDP Governors who had completed their tenures.
